A Foundation to Stand On

The following post is an article I submitted and got published on the awesome website http://www.projectinspired.com:

Every day it happens. You get flustered. Upset. Mad at something or someone. We all can relate, right? The world can be pretty tough, and it doesn’t take much to let it throw us off our game. Personally, I know that even the smallest things can sometimes cause me to get agitated with my whole day. This is only natural.

But just because life can leave us physically or mentally weak doesn’t mean that we can’t still be STRONG. God can take our fatigue and our exhaustion and use it to make us stronger people. He gives us a firm foundation to stand on even at our very worst times! The other amazing thing is that Jesus has already overcome this troubled world for us. There is nothing to fear. He has saved us. We are free, and whenever problems come, we can have faith in the Lord to get us through. Need some reassurance?

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. (Isaiah 40:29)

What do you stand on when the going gets tough? Your past achievements? Your social status? The amount of likes you get on a Facebook picture? Your money? These are some of the things that we, as humans, desire intensely. There’s no denying that we want these things…we happen to all have one thing in common: we are sinners. Earthly and human-made things such as our material desires can only fight other earthly things. When the world gets you down, you can’t combat earth with more earth.

For example, if you’re upset that a guy broke up with you, don’t try to fight it by mentally abusing yourself, replaying the scenarios over and over again. It accomplishes nothing. It doesn’t make you feel any better, either. Life is going to have bumps in the road, and a breakup is definitely one of them. But don’t try to think that there’s something you can do to make it all better. Sabotage and revenge—these are earthly things (and just not a good idea in general).

The only real things that can ever fight earthly things and WIN are Heavenly things. If you trust in The Lord to hold you together and keep fighting through, you’re combating earth with Heaven. And Heaven will ALWAYS WIN. Plus, God has a plan for you! That guy who broke up with you just might not be in it. And since God knows the future and what’s best for you, then I’d say that losing that boy is good riddance! God has someone a million times better (though sometimes this is hard to accept) waiting for you. Be patient.

While you’re waiting, here are two simple equations I figured out:

earth + earth = more earthly drama

earth + Heaven = peace

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)

Let God be your foundation in this world! We ultimately have no control. So let go and let GOD. You may get pushed down sometimes, but He is ALWAYS there to catch you and bring peace back to your heart.
